When I found out that I was pregnant, I was elated, however the whole idea of labor and delivery really had me quite anxious and indeed fearful. In an effort to 'prepare' myself for what was to come, I asked my friends and family what their labor & delivery was like. It was through my inquiries that I learned about Doula services and how much support they can provide throughout pregnancy and most importantly to me, on the 'big day'. So, in my 7th month, through a bit of digging around I was referred to Jenn, who made me feel much more comfortable and confident right from our very first phone call, all the way through to now. Since I am a single parent and my family and friends mostly live out of town, I really appreciated the 'above and beyond' support and attention that Jenn provided me through home visits, phone calls and email. Jenn is such a caring and thoughtful person and always had my best interest at heart. She provided high quality support, and was very accommodating to my birth plan. On the 'big day', January 30, 2007, I called Jenn in the early morning and she sensed I was in active labor and came over as soon as possible whereupon she got me up and walking. Within an hour we were on the way to the hospital and low and behold I was half way dilated already! All the way through labor, Jenn was so calming and reassuring, and never left my side....I can't imagine what the experience would have been like without her there to assist me in embracing my inner strength to deliver my beautiful, healthy baby girl. When Jenn came for a follow up visit she showed me the big black and blue bruise I gave her 3 weeks earlier on her hip where I squeezed her so hard (thinking I had her hand I guess!), and she just smiled saying that it was her pleasure to be a part of my birthing experience. I send out my heartfelt appreciation to Jenn and I feel that a bond for life has been created.
