"At first I didn't understand what a Doula was or why my wife needed one. Now that I have gone through the labor and delivery process I can honestly say that every couple needs a Doula."
"I wasn't dealing with any challenges at the time, however, while I had a nice birth with my first, I wanted to have an even better with my second. One thing I really wanted to know was different techniques for a natural birth as well as what my rights were at the hospital and what I could and could not decline. I wanted advice/support and someone to turn to whenever I had any questions during pregnancy/labor.
I liked your website and all the information I was able to obtain from it before speaking to you. When I spoke to you initially on the phone I got a good relaxed vibe and felt comfortable right away. I liked the virtual option as well, especially with this being my second time I was somewhat versed in pregnancy/labor and also had support of my husband in the hospital. That part was appealing because it offered enough support but not too much and also was budget friendly given I'd be going on unpaid maternity leave soon. My husband did not see the need for a doula the way I did (men) so convincing him to spend thousands was impossible.
My goals for birth were to be as natural as possible including not having an IV or antibiotics or an epidural or the fetal heart monitor, etc. I wanted the least hospital intervention possible, basically just wanted a physical safe place to have my baby. I was able to do this as I felt very prepared for the moment and relaxed about giving birth. I felt comfortable knowing what I could ask for at the hospital (like intermitted heart monitoring versus being hooked up). I was able to have a natural birth without much intervention mostly because it happened so fast but I think that was due to my preparation and feeling of security surrounding the situation and knowing I had my husband and access to Danielle throughout the labor, as well as the tools she taught me. It is a mindset. Danielle answered all my questions prior to labor and met with my husband and I to walk us through a bunch of techniques I'd personally be interested in using to labor naturally as desired. She also helped my husband feel more prepared in how to help me, besides the usual holding a hand and telling you you're doing great, etc.
For me, I found being able to have advise on different things that occurred during pregnancy or questions that came up (like to decline or not decline the glucose test) the most helpful. Also, I liked having a bunch of ideas going into labor of how to be most comfortable and use techniques Danielle shared with my husband and I to get through labor in my intended way. It is invaluable to talk to someone who has personal experience and education on laboring.
What stands out most is just how comfortable I felt talking to you about different things and never felt judged. Anytime I had a question, even postpartum about breastfeeding, Danielle had answers. She also was direct and told me if something was not a great idea or helped me see it from a different angle. I also felt comfortable and agreeable with what she told me and found it to be good advise. Every time I talked to Danielle she was very positive and helpful. The conference that we had before birth where she went over things like eating mints, drinking water, rebozo techniques (with pictures) was helpful and calming as I felt prepared. "

"I needed help on planning better for my second birth especially on the epidural, things I can do to help the birth goes faster and easier, and most importantly, what I can to to avoid postpartum blues or depression. Danielle introduced me to the world of doula and seeing how you helped other women, that gave me a lot of confidence in choosing her.
My goals were to make plans before, during and after birth that will reduce the chance of me getting postpartum blues. Danielle's postpartum plan worksheet and helping me review my birth plan help me achieve this. The best thing she did for me is letting me know that I can epidural earlier than I originally thought helped me so much. I was able to watch tv and carry out conversations during labor. Best birth ever! She is the best, I can't thank her enough.
Danielle's knowledge and the information she shared are very valuable. Her encouragements and answers to all my questions stand out the most to me. It really made me feel at ease and knowing I had her support really help me during the newborn phase."

"My husband and I had no family nearby to come support us or watch our 5 year old for us if I suddenly went into labor. We knew I might have to go to the hospital by myself and that scared me. I hired Danielle so that if I had to go to the hospital and my husband had to stay behind to get our son to school, I would have someone come to be with me at the hospital. Thank goodness, because that’s exactly what happened! I felt secure and calmer having her there with me.
I liked that when I met you, you were very down to earth and you listened to our concerns. You also lived near us and met with us a few times during the last couple months of pregnancy. Anything can happen in labor. I had experienced a miscarriage several years ago. When my son was born (in Nebraska), I had a doula there to help support me. When we moved to NY, I had to find a new doula. My goals were to stay calm and move around. During an intense part of labor, you told me, “let your body open” and minutes later, we welcomed our daughter into the world.
Just your presence there with me was so comforting, especially since my husband couldn’t be there at first. You also were there to remind me to stay hydrated, use the bathroom, change position, relax and color a picture, help me not get disappointed if things seemed to start slow...all those things together made the whole experience more peaceful and joyous. You were also able to help us get started with breastfeeding right away, which was super important to us.
During a hard part of labor, you told me to “let my body open.” When you said that I realized that my body was tense and consciously relaxed. Moments later, Seersha Kate was born. And you helped me with my breathing-blow out birthday candles- when the Dr told me not to push yet- that was a doozy."

"I’ve always known I would one day want a doula present at my labor because I knew how valuable it would be to have one present. My goal was to have a natural labor without any epidural. I knew it was going to be difficult, and I was unsure if I would be able to do it, but I knew with the support of a doula I would have a better chance of accomplishing that goaI . My husband on the other hand had a few concerns- mainly because he did not really understand what a doula was and what they do. By the end of the entire process you really helped him understand the value of a doula.
The information on your website was very clear. I liked that we would be able to have face to face meetings prior to my labor and a postpartum visit as well. I had hopes for a birth that was free of as many medical interventions as possible. Although things did not go as planned to due unexpected circumstances that arose throughout my labor, I feel like I accomplished the goal of going as long as I possibly could without an epidural. That goal would absolutely not have been possible without your help.
Your time was the most valuable to us. The time you spent to meet with us at our home before birth as well as our postpartum meeting, and the knowledge you shared with us is priceless. You helped us develop a realistic expectation of labor, life with a baby, and valuable advice on how to prepare for it all. Secondly, your ability to be so calm and collected during the entire labor process- even after being awake for over 24 hours straight, while pregnant was amazing. We are so grateful.
I’ll never forget you my husband putting pressure on my lower back to help ease the pain before every contraction! There are so many things stand out to me! Again, our meetings at my home throughout my pregnancy really helped us tremendously. In addition, I ended having a much longer labor than I anticipated. I know it was physically demanding on everyone, but the fact that you remained with us for almost 2 full days throughout all of the uncertainty was so reassuring. The way you also taught my husband how to help and support me during my labor was great. He also appreciated that he was able able to “take a break” from the birth and have some lunch and decompress. I know it sounds small but he was so appreciative of this. And till this day he raves how he could not imagine our labor without you."

“Working with Danielle as our doula was such a great experience. I knew almost as soon as we met that she was the right choice for us. We covered a lot of info at our initial consult, as well as discuss any thoughts and expectations I might have for working with a doula. She was very thorough, professional, supportive and comforting during our (2) prenatal visits. We were in touch via text and email throughout my pregnancy and sent me so much helpful info on any topic that I was inquiring about. I felt supported, she made me understand that she heard me and would do anything she could to help me have the labor and delivery that I truly wished for. My water broke at 11:30 at night and she was there for me as soon as I called, keeping me calm, walking me through everything that I should do next, and she was there for me every 2 hours when I called her that night! She was there for me at the hospital when it was time to go, and supported my fiance and I through a challenging labor and delivery. Danielle stayed for a while after the birth to establish breastfeeding and gave us both a warm hug on the way out, once we were all settled with our new baby. I have and will continue to recommend her services to any friends and clients of mine in the future. A truly caring and supportive birth attendant. .” AnnMarie C.- West Nyack, NY

"Being a first time mom, I was overwhelmed and intimidated by the process of giving birth. I wanted someone with the expertise that my husband and I lacked to be on my team.I felt like we got along well during our initial meetings, which considering the personal nature of the doula/mother relationship was very important to me, and I appreciated that you seemed to have a lot of knowledge but wouldn't pressure me to do things in a certain way. I also liked that you take on only a few clients per month to try and ensure there are no conflicts, and that you had never missed a birth, although knowing that anything can happen, it was comforting to know you work with a back up doula as well.
My main goal, if it could be accomplished safely, was to have a vaginal birth, and to feel like the birth was an overall positive experience. By working together I learned a lot about the pros and cons of the different pain management options, which made me feel prepared, and then during labor your support was hugely helpful in getting through the active labor and pushing stages. It was also great to be able to turn to you with some immediate post-partum questions.
One of the things that stands out most in my memory is the time we spent walking up and down the maternity ward during contractions. They started coming faster, more frequently, and more intensely that I expected, so it was invaluable to have you to lean on (literally!) and help me breathe through them."

"At first I didn't understand what a Doula was or why my wife needed one. Now that I have gone through the labor and delivery process I can honestly say that every couple needs a Doula. She really helped us out in more ways than I can explain, like at 3 am when I was exhausted she was with my wife breathing through contractions and I was able to get rest so I could truly be there for my wife and I knew she wasn't alone." Nick D.- Walden, NY
" We had a great experience using Danielle as our birth doula. She met with my husband and I twice at length for prenatal visits where she told us about her training and all of her resources that she uses during labor. When I went into labor, she met us at the hospital and suggested different methods and positions to try. She also spoke to the nursing staff about what would make me more comfortable. Danielle also has the sensitivity to know when the couple needs time to themselves and also made that clear to the staff. She came equipped with essential oils, her ipad with Netflix and music, rebozo, made sure I drank water and held my leg during pushing! She took pictures of the baby and stayed until we were ready for her to leave. She also works on a sliding scale and believes everyone should have a doula. I'd highly recommend her!" Leah G.- Spring Valley, NY
" During my pregnancy I was so grateful to have Danielle. She has a wealth of information and was able to explain things to me as they came up. Danielle brings a warm calming presents to any situation. She was there for me from the very beginning. She came to my home and helped me labor through contractions. When we went to the hospital she was an incredible support. Suggesting different labor positions, helped me understand what the nurses were doing and come prepared with essential oils, a rice sock, an ice packs, a birthing ball (just to name a few things). I would recommend Danielle to anyone looking for a doula, her service is priceless." Colleen L- Stony Point, NY
"You were supportive & kept me informed during the birth process. You provided me with data in regard to question I asked of you. You never tried to influence any of my choices, just supported me. You worked hard! You were on the floor massaging my aching back, walking the halls with me, running for ice & wet wash cloths, I honestly couldn't have done it without you! When I started screaming like a banshee for pain meds, you told me to get through the next contraction and we would discuss the pros & cons. Thankfully my doctor was there, and checked me & I was ready to push, MEDICATION FREE! IT was truly the birth experience I wanted." Shannon H.- Cornwall, NY
"I was in a situation in which I wanted as natural a birth as possible without being able to afford the home birth I wanted. In turn I decided to find the perfect birth team to help me achieve my goal and knew you were the right choice. I needed you to help me stay focused on my natural choices and support me through some of the difficult moments during my pregnancy & birth. You were always able to supply me with evidence based information, you are clearly passionate about what you do, and I knew you would be the strong & comforting presence I needed to have the birth I wanted. I wanted to have as natural a birth as possible in a hospital setting. You supported me every step of the way, provided amazing comfort measures, and kept me focused. Provided invaluable support and empowered me to know I was making all the right choices for me and my baby. Aside from always making me feel heard and understood, your counter pressure was the main thing that got me through my back labor!" Natalia K.- Stony Point, NY
